Thank you to everyone who joined us for our 5th Annual Visual Arts and Jazz Day™, a three day community event celebrating visual arts and jazz on Fri. June 11th 2021 (see program video below). The event featured performances by Keith "The Captain" Gamble, Jazz Vocalist Terri Davis, Visual Artist Elton Leonard, Atiba Wilson & his Befoquotet Band, Puppeteer Will Abbott & Mrs. Biddie, Vocalist/Percussionist Paul Brown, with Jazzy Storytime™ by Visual Artist and Festival Founder Gwendolyn Black.
Additional events held will included a senior barbeque on Friday, June 11th presented by HCCI with performances by Charles Butler and the Blues Bandits with Salsa Instruction by Thabbit Iddin with a performance by Puppeteer Will Abbott & Mrs. Biddie.
On Sun. June 13th, 3-5 pm a Pre-Father's Day Concert was held at Patrick's Place in Harlem (151st Street and Frederick Douglass Blvd) featuring Trumpeter Michael Young & the Soul Band, Broadway Composer/Pianist Emme Kemp and Trio with special guests vocalist LeeOlive Tucker, Rochelle Thompson, and Sophia Loren Coffee.
This event was supported by LMCC (Lower Manhattan Cultural Council) UMEZ (Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone), and the UMEZ Arts Engagement Grant.
Cool cherished jazz Joe Chambers – SAMBA DE MARACATU: You can look far & wide, but you won’t find a multi-instrumentalist of Joe’s caliber these days… on his upcoming Blue Note release, he plays drums, percussion and vibraphone, alongside stellar bandmates Brad Merritt on piano, synthesizer and Steve Haines doing bass… absolutely the kind of cool & cherished jazz you’re needing to hear . . .
